Support for the Economic Reform in Kyrgyzstan

This project, carried out jointly by CASE and CASE-Kyrgyzstan and financed by the Open Society Institute had two aims: 1) advice for the Kyrgyz government and 2) strengthening and consolidating the local intellectual potential by transferring the know-how of CASE to CASE-Kyrgyzstan. Among others, the project included building a macroeconomic model for Kyrgyzstan and launching a quarterly macroeconomic publication entitled "Kyrgyz Economic Outlook", which presents the current situation and forecasts for the Kyrgyz economy. A macroeconomic modeling course was conducted for employees of the Finance Ministry, while a series of seminars was organized for other civil servants and policymakers, focusing on selected problems of transition process. A number of studies were published, concerning the Central Bank of Kyrgyzstan, exchange rate regimes, inflation, the state budget, the banking and financial sectors, the energy sector and the effectiveness of foreign aid for Kyrgyzstan.
