Support for the Economic Reform in Georgia

Description:

Within the framework of a two-year project concluded in 2002, Support for Economic Reform in Georgia, institutional and methodological assistance was given to CASE-Transcaucasus, the financially-independent research institute which was jointly set up by the Foundation. Coordinated by Jacek Cukrowski, the project resulted in the creation of a macroeconomic model for Georgia, which formed the basis for the publication of the quarterly "Georgian Economic Outlook", which appeared under the guidance of CASE experts from 2000-2002. CASE-Transcaucasus associates had been methodologically prepared to continue the work independently on the quarterly after completion of the project. CASE experts also advised the Georgian state administration and local economic institutions. Along with economists from CASE-Transcaucasus, they prepared papers covering macroeconomic questions, the banking sector, foreign investments, social policy and education in Georgia. Georgian associates took part in international ventures (projects and conferences) organized by CASE, and were encouraged to take part in macroeconomics courses and foreign internships. Within the framework of the project, conferences were organized covering agricultural reform, microenterprises and education; in 2001 and 2002, competitions for students were organized on economic subjects.
