Women’s Empowerment in the Mediterranean Region
Project description:
The project will focus on the countries of the EU Southern neighbourhood and some other countries comprised by the ARLEM network: Egypt, Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Palestinian Authority, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Women’s empowerment is one of the ARLEM’s priorities as the challenges faced by the southern Mediterranean region nowadays, such as unemployment, extremism, terrorism and social exclusion, have a great impact on women and children.
The overall objective of this contract is to present and analyse the gender equality state of play in the above mentioned South Mediterranean EU partner countries.
Specific objectives of the project are:
- to prepare an overview of the key data on the current gender equality situation in the Southern partner countries of the EU comprised by the ARLEM network (based on: access to education, access to labour market and gender pay gap, access to economic/finance resources; access to and participation in political life, demography and family policies, access to services like housekeeping, child care and combating violence against women)
- to evaluate the main cooperation programmes with the EU with key success factors/threats and potential expectations for the partner countries
- to provide recommendations notably on possible actions and monitoring tools to define policies based on good practices exchanges and international objectives.
