“Youth Unemployment: Fighting it the German way?”

Izabela Styczyńska presented her work at the conference on “Youth Unemployment: Fighting it the German way?”, organized by CEPS in Brussels within the project “Enhancing youth opportunities in employment: determinants and policy implications”. The aim of this conference was to discuss the most recent trends on the youth labor market at the European level and to provide policy recommendations in that field. Besides the researchers, the event gathered European and national policy-makers.

The researchers in attendance argued for the need to take a closer look at the type of contracts for young people in order to make their jobs more secure on the labor market; to diminish the minimum wage so that youth can become more competitive for potential employers; to modify educational systems to facilitate the transition from school to work; and, finally, to look at the policies allowing young people to reconcile their work and family life.
