What are the main challenges that Poland is facing due to hosting nearly 3m Ukrainian refugees?
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, approximately 6.5 million persons became internally displaced and over 4 million fled to neighbouring countries, predominantly to Poland. Given the country’s lack of experience in welcoming such a large number of refugees Katarzyna Sidło (CASE) and Marah Jamous (WANA) wrote an article that proposes a set of policy recommendations drawing from the experience of Jordan – a country that is host to around 3 million refugees (nearly half of them Syrian).
In the article, lessons learnt regarding provision of housing, financial support, and public services as well as access to the labour market were drawn and translated for use in the Polish context. Additionally, public discourse and public opinion trends were analysed as well.
The article entitled "https://www.euromesco.net/publication/a-decade-of-hosting-syrian-refugees-in-jordan-lessons-learnt-for-poland/
" was published by EuroMeSCo:Additionally Katarzyna Sidło together with Marah Jamous from WANA Institute gave an interview on the subject. They discussed the main challenges that Poland would face due to hosting nearly 3m Ukrainian refugees, analysed what does situation in Poland and in Jordan have in common and explored what lessons may be learnt from Jordan's experience.
