Road to the EU of the Visegrad countries: lessons for Ukraine
Project description
The main beneficiaries of the project are the Ukrainian citizens living in Eastern and Southern regions of Ukraine. The project implementation is expected to raise their awareness about the real prospects of Ukraine’s integration with the EU and allow them to make their own mind about this issue in rational and conscious fashion. The project is also expected to contribute to undermining false stereotypes about the EU in the public opinion of Eastern and Southern Ukrainians.
General Objectives of the Project
The main aim of the project is to contribute to undermining prejudices of public opinion towards European integration in Eastern and Southern regions of Ukraine by organizing public discussions on possible solutions of problems Ukraine might face on its way to the EU using experience of its neighboring countries. The project is expected to reach the main beneficiaries through regional and national mass media activities which will participate in public events and disseminate information about project activities in their publications.
Project Structure and Involvement of CASE
The project envisages conduction of four expert opinion polls, six regional round tables, publication of five policy papers, and conduction of the final conference in Kyiv. Three expert polls are conducted by partners in Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. One expert poll is conducted by the project Coordinator - Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation (DIF). Regional round tables are organized in cities of Eastern and Southern regions, where the support of European integration is the lowest in Ukraine. During the meetings, foreign experts present their publications on peculiarities of their countries’ road to the EU and engage in discussion with DIF experts and local civic activists on problems and prospects of Ukraine during its integration in the EU. The final conference in Kyiv discusses main results of the project and strategy of further informational campaign on the EU.
