Prof. Balcerowicz - Economist; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in the first non-communist government of Poland (September 1989 – December 1990); President of the National Bank of Poland in 2001-2007; Professor at the Warsaw School of Economics; Founder (2007) and Council Chairman of the Civil Development Forum Foundation (FOR) – a think-tank based in Poland; Member of Group of Thirty (G-30).
Chairman of Scientific Council and Chairman of Supervisory Council of CASE-Center for Social and Economic Research in 1993-2000.
Doctor honoris causa of thirty two universities in Poland and abroad, distinguished with twenty seven prestigious awards, including the Medal of White Eagle of Poland (2005) received for the systemic transformation of Poland; the Ludwig Erhard Award (1992), the Friedrich August von Hayek Prize (2001), and the Milton Friedman Prize for Advancing Liberty, granted by CATO Institute (2014).
