Presentation of the report 'Economies in Transition. An OED Evaluation of World Bank Assistance'

CASE - Center for Social and Economic Research and the World Bank Office in Poland invite to the conference on 29 October 2004 at which a report entitled 'Economies in Transition. An OED Evaluation of World Bank Assistance' will be presented.
The report was prepared by the Operations Evaluation Department (OED) - an independent unit within the World Bank assessing the Bank's activities and improving its work by identefying and disseminating the lessons learned from experience and by framing recommendations drawn from evaluation findings.
The report 'Economies in Transition. An OED Evaluation of World Bank Assistance' asseses the efectiveness of World Bank assitance in 26 transition economies in the Europe and Central Asia Region since 1989. Although the evaluation do not include all areas where the Bank was active, it provides an in-depth examination of five areas of Bank assistance: private sector development; governance, public sector management and institutional building; financial sector' social protection' and energy. Conclusions and recommendations presented in the report are designed to be used in preparing future aid programms.
