Dr. Przemyslaw Kowalski appointed President of CASE
The Supervisory Council of CASE – Center for Social and Economic Research is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Przemysław Kowalski as the President of the Management Board of CASE.
Dr. Kowalski is an experienced international economist with outstanding academic and advisory achievements in a wide range of research and policy areas, including international economics, economic development and growth, innovation, and micro and macroeconomics. He has contributed to several articles and books on economics and economic policy.
As the President of the Management Board, Dr. Kowalski will be responsible for setting the strategic vision for the organisation, developing funding opportunities, overseeing research and projects in the areas of growth, trade and innovation, developing and executing CASE’s communications strategy, and managing relations with CASE’s key partners and daughter organisations.
Dr. Kowalski is joining CASE from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) where his research, advisory and supervision responsibilities since 2002 include macroeconomic projections and country surveillance, quantitative and qualitative assessments of economic effects of trade and other structural policy reforms, and various specialised topics in trade, investment, competition and productivity. Most recently, he has led some of the OECD’s workstreams on policy implications of comparative advantage and gains from trade, global value chains, globalisation and inequality, trade and investment of state enterprises, international technology transfer and the international level playing field. In these roles, he has been working closely with governments of OECD member countries and its key partners, the European Commission, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the World Trade Organisation.
Prior to joining the OECD, Dr. Kowalski worked as an academic expert specialising in international macroeconomics, trade and finance, including at CASE from 1998, and in collaboration with institutions such as the Economist Intelligence Unit, the Centre for Economic Policy Research and the Global Development Network. Throughout his career he has also acquired significant teaching experience, including as a lecturer at the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom, the Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) in France, and as a guest lecturer at numerous other academic institutions.
Dr. Kowalski graduated with a PhD in economics from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom in 2006, and holds an MA and an MSc in economics from the University of Sussex and the University of Warsaw, respectively. He has been a recipient of a number of academic scholarships and awards in Poland, the United Kingdom and the European Union.
