Agnieszka Kulesa, CASE Economist, attended an expert workshop on adjudication of asylum claims in Europe organised in Warsaw on 20 September 2018 within the framework of the Making Asylum Systems Work in Europe project. 

The workshop was the fourth of a series of workshops organised within the framework of the "Making Asylum Systems Work in Europe" project, the initiative led by Migration Policy Institute Europe and the Bertelsmann Stiftung.

The topics discussed during the meeting included such issues as sources and use of country of origin information, caseworkers' trainings and quality assurance in the asylum process, and cooperation among EU MS regarding processing of asylum applications.

The project aim has been to contribute to the capacity building of national asylum systems so they can function more effectively. The project activities have encompassed analysis of national asylum policies, practices, and mechanisms that have been used successfully at the national level to address obstacles, with a view to their transferability. The project have also aimed to promote exchange and cooperation in member states to facilitate the harmonisation of asylum policies and practices across Europe.

The project has been implemented in cooperation with the Gulbenkian Foundation in Portugal, the Swedish Migration Studies Delegation (Delmi), the Institute of Public Affairs in Poland and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).
